Our Impact

BUILDING SECOND CHANCES PROGRAM

Our Building Second Chances Program helps young adults in Baltimore find a way out of violent circumstances and avoid involvement in the criminal justice system through training in construction trades, financial literacy education, and emotional trauma support. The program also complements Baltimore’s revitalization strategy by restoring and repairing neglected properties in historically underfunded neighborhoods.

HOW WE DO IT

  • Up to 18-month immersive program
  • Daily hands-on construction training with a licensed contractor/master carpenter
  • Weekly peer group sessions with licensed therapists to facilitate healing, well-being and life skills
  • Regular lunch and learn sessions on wide ranging topics important to their growth and well-being

WHAT SETS US APART

  • No H.S. diploma or GED requirement; a barrier to similar pre-apprenticeship programs
  • A focus on justice-involved, at-risk young adults; some in pre-trial status
  • Trainees receive stipends to show the value of learning a trade and earning a living wage
  • We go beyond skills training; we uplift our participants, support healing, and inspire brighter futures

WHY IT WORKS

It’s simple, when you have better options, you can make better choices. We’ve created a program that provides the support, mentoring and skills to encourage better choices, resulting in positive outcomes from reduced criminal behavior to full time employment.

We believe everyone can succeed no matter where they start in life.

“HTPH has created a future for me… it changed my life. I had low self-esteem, [now] my confidence is tremendous…it’s through the roof! Thank you I appreciate what you’ve done for me…This is my future, HTP Homes.”
AL JALLOH, EMPLOYEE, HTP HOMES, INC.

“You just don’t throw supplies together and the house comes together instantaneously. That’s not how we’re going to rebuild our city….one nail at a time, one child at a time, one block at a time, one community at a time is how we rebuild the city of Baltimore. That’s why we say thank you to HTP Homes for coming and setting up shop and understanding the importance of [Changing Lives One Nail At A Time.]”
NICK J. MOSBY, BALTIMORE CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT

“I thank God for organizations like HTP Homes…who know the importance of providing opportunities to change lives…. I encourage all who have an opportunity to participate in this program, do it; stick with it! That’s the mindset of a champion”
VINCENT PETTWAY, FORMER WORLD BOXING CHAMPION AND BALTIMORE NATIVE
